1. ATV & Buggy Rides
Probably the craziest thing I did on the wheel after I got my driving license. I have to admit that the session was overpriced, and we each paid 1700 Baht (SGD$68) for the 1 hour session. The experience was unique, riding through bumpy terrains and slopes and capturing a picturesque view of the plantations around. It wasn't difficult to get steady on the wheels. My friend managed to operate it without any prior driving experience. Get your shades ready to protect your vision as you'll definitely get soiled driving through sand smog. Wet tissues are essentials for post activity clean up, be sure to bring it along with you.
2. Kayaking
Took a 30 minutes ride from Ao Nang to Ao Thalane for the ultimate kayaking experience. Life jackets, waterproof bags and mineral bottled water are provided. The half day activity cost each of us 1000 baht (SGD$40). We had a friendly guide that spearheaded the expedition, to direct the routes and ensured our safety in the waters. We paddled through the valleys, by the caves and witnessed the best of nature. Got a little overwhelmed when we saw monkeys hooping by the caves while cruising in the waters. Prepare sunblock with you, waterproof phone protectors for your phone to keep it dry when you flash them out to snap pictures of the scenic view. Last but not least additional outfits to change after the activity.
3. Elephant Ride
It was hell of a ride on the lovely elephant as we toured the wild and went straight into the pool. The ride was approximately 30 minutes long which was fun and affordable at only 300 baht (SGD$12). You could request to get splashed by the elephants for candid photographs but remember you have a price to pay - the pool might contain elephants’ waste and you might feel uncomfortable afterwards. Live the moment and get wet with the elephants I’d suggest. I had my phone with me all the time and snapped tons of photos. Lovely experience!
4. Thai Massage
Planned for Thai Massage after a tiring day and get unwired under the ruthless hands of the masseurs. I had full body massage and leg message on two separate occasions. Each session cost 250 baht (SDG$12) and lasted for an hour. You can't find a better way to end the day and head back to the villa for a deep slumber.
5. Island Hopping & Snorkelling
The squad spent a whole day Island Hopping, getting soaked in the sun and wild in the waters! We hired an operator and a long tail boat for a day at 6000 baht (SGD$240) in total and it include lunch and snorkelling essentials for everyone. We hopped 4 islands in total and managed to catch a sunset on the way back to the shore.
6. Authentic Thai Food
I looked forward to every meal and got excited to indulge in my favourite Tom Yum Kung and Thai Iced Tea with Milk. Stuffed myself with Thai Signature dishes through the trip and savoured every drop of Tom Yum Soup I possibly could have. Especially adored their Tom Yum Fried Rice, Fried Omelette with Pork/Chicken/Shrimp, Pineapple Fried Rice, Rice with Stir Fried Basil and Pork and Peppered Chicken/Beef Noodle Soup. Every meal cost about 150 baht ($6) which was pretty decent for non roadside food and we managed to fill our tummies with savoury authentic Thai dishes to die for.
7. Krabi Town Night Market
I was told that the Night Market open at 5pm and the shops would start to close at 9pm by a local guide. Dived straight for their street food with gobbled down skewered grilled pork, sausages, chicken and shiitake mushrooms (25 baht each)(SGD$1). Had a taste of the popular Mango Sticky Rice for 35 baht ($1.50) and found a hall of tables with a performance stage. We had a chitchat session over rice sets and a huge plate of roasted chicken. Afterwards, we went around the souvenirs stalls before heading back to the villa.
8. Paint Ball, BB Shooting & Go Kart
Yet another overpriced entertainment except for Paint Ball, each activity cost 800 baht (SGD32) and could barely last for 30 minutes. Nonetheless, I enjoyed my virgin paint ball experience and lived in my own CID moments. Unfortunately, I got shot on the neck within the first five minutes and had to survive a hickey-like-bruise on my neck for the next 3 days. My friends had a good laugh for the rest of the trip.
9. Rent a Motorcycle
One of the biggest regret was we did not manage to spent more time on the motorcycle. We only had time for a brief ride on the last night. The rental per bike cost 250 baht (SGD$12) for 24 hours and the thrill derived from it was beyond words. My friends had a crazy time with it and got their hands on within 15 minutes of cruising. Remember, safety first and heed advice from friends who have prior experience on the two-wheeled.
10. Dinner with a View
Just for a meal with a view and additional baht to spare. Lae Lay Grill is located at the hilltop that serves ‘atas’ food with a stunning view and impeccable service. We ordered like a beast, only to find out we were barely half full from the meal. The total bill was almost 8000 baht and each paid 1000 baht (SGD$40). However, the exorbitant price came with a magnificent sunset view that as priceless. My humble suggestion is to look at the price tag before ordering, avoid the seafood platters and it would cause less damage to our wallets. Nonetheless, it was a good once in a lifetime experience. The photos wouldn't lie - the well plated dishes, ambience and the best view of Krabi for a meal.
